Most pedal companies, in recent years, have released their own overdrive pedals based on a certain mythical beast. The original is known for its simple three control layout and amazing low gain overdrive that really sings with its beautiful midrange. The Keeley Oxblood, however, does so much more. It's based on the same circuit, but can produce plenty of gain without losing the classic tone.
Magical and Mythical
One of the aspects that gave the original 'K' style overdrive its special characteristics was the set of high quality diodes, which were recently thought to be untraceable. The Oxblood contains similar diodes available in its 'Mythical' setting for a large, warm tone that gets incredibly close to the real thing.
If you're after more gain or a tighter tone, then the best option is to have a second set of switchable diodes. So that's exactly what Keeley did, installing the 'Magical' diodes for a much harsher and tighter distortion on the verge of fuzz.
Phat Tone
Some guitarists feel 'K' style overdrives have too low an output. It can be difficult to dial in meatiness and punch. Keeley rectified this by adding in what they call the Phat switch, giving you the option to select either a 736hz or 66hz low cut.
Completely Original Circuit
One of the biggest benefits of the Oxblood is that it is a completely original circuit. Keeley were not limited by existing output or controls. You get the same iconic tones, plus a whole new layer of gain. This is the one overdrive you will ever need.
Here's what Keeley say about the Oxblood Overdrive:
When inspiration hits, you need the voice to proclaim it. When you need that voice, count on the Keeley Oxblood Overdrive to be your beast of burden.
The Keeley Oxblood Overdrive is our response to everyone cloning the "Mythical Beast" pedal. We decided to build an original design. We wanted to build a new circuit that let players blend from perfectly clean to amp-crushing roar. We wanted that impossibly huge and focused midrange that makes any guitar… Strat, Paul, Tele, sound incredible. We knew we could do it our way and offer you more tone. So we designed this pedal over the course of a few days to outdo the old pedal. I am confident we not only drew blood, we crafted a #killer
Clean, Distortion, Fuzz - It's All There
With the Keeley Oxblood Overdrive you roll off the Drive Control down and get a perfectly clean sound, you can dial in any amount of distortion and volume to stomp an amp into pure tonal nirvana. The Keeley Oxblood Overdrive offers you two ways to clip and saturate your signal with overtones by selecting carefully chosen diodes. Magical and Mythical, Monstrous and Most Satisfying they are indeed.
Trifecta
The Keeley Oxblood Overdrive was designed by Robert Keeley and Craighton Hale with a lot of help and insight from Jack Orman. Jack Orman has been a pioneer in the modern world of effects for 20 years. His thoughts and ideas are incorporated by nearly every boutique builder out there. Here is your chance to hear a brand new creation designed to outperform any of the clones.
