The purpose of a compressor is primarily to allow you to change the sustain and attack of the guitar sound. Using classic variable gain techniques the Compressor will provide a clean sustain to use whatever your style. The Compressor pedal senses the level of the guitar's input signal, and as this decays, the internal circuit gain increases to provide additional gain, and therefore sustain.
